Simple to fix. Don’t connect your computer to a network and remove any wireless cards. An air gap is very effective.

Not necessarily true. NSA had chips planted on MB’s that allow them to remotely access computers from as far away as two miles.

Given that they apparently installed a separate fiber-optic line to her computer, even that might not have been effective.
(i.e. they had some form of physical access.)
