I don’t think I’ve ever witnessed an actual example of catcalling in my life. Always assumed it was strictly a boorish northeastern thing, done by scuzzbags.
Wolf-whistles, on the other hand, much more common. Usually done in a sort of self-consciously comical way, amongst college-age peers and such.
Born and bred in the Northeast although never spent time in areas with large NAM populations but the incident I described was the only one I ever observed. If this woman walked Manhattan below 125th St she would not get catcalled just white guys giving a second look.
I experienced it in my younger days. It never came from a white man. Never.
