Papa John's founder attends funeral for slain employee, offers to pay expenses: family
John Schnatter flew out to Spring Hill, Tenn. Saturday to pay his respects after 22-year-old Gordon Schaffer was fatally shot during a brazen stickup on Oct. 20. The CEO generously then went one step further by offering to pay for Schaffer's funeral and medical costs.
A Papa John's employee who was shot and killed in a cold-blooded stickup inside a Tennessee restaurant was laid to rest Saturday in a moving ceremony attended by the national pizza chain's very own founder and CEO, his family said.
John Schnatter flew out to Spring Hill to pay his respects to 22-year-old Gordon Schaffer's family along with about 25 cars packed with other Papa John's employees, his grieving sister said.
"We never once imagined that this would touch anyone high up in the Papa John's corporate office, let alone, John Schnatter," his sister, Devan Cronin, posted on Facebook Sunday.

If you look at a list of the most dangerous p[rofesions, you’ll see every year: fishmen, loggers.. and delivery drivers. (Usually “police officer” isn’t even on the list)
The next time the Dominos guy comes to your house. shake his hand and thank him for his service. These guys are true heros.
Rest in peace to the deceased. Horrible. We’ve seen these crimes before. No justice can be done from snuffing out the life of such a fine young man. Hope they are punished to the law’s maximum.
I know the Domino’s around here all have glass in front of the counter, this sounded like an in-store robbery. I’m not sure about Papa John’s, I think I have been in one and they didn’t have the protective glass in front.
So he was killed while at work at Papa John’s? The whole thing is sad, and it is honorable that the PJ founder is paying for the funeral, but it is probably the least he can do... and he may be trying to stave off some civil suit by the family concerning protection/safety of employees.
I wonder if Papa John’s has a no weapons policy for their CCW holding employees?
I used to deliver pizzas during some unemployed times. I once had a gun put in my face at an apartment complex in Memphis TN about 13 years ago. I got away with my life, he just took my money I had on me.
Why did the gunman kill Schaffer after he had handed over all the cash in the register?
Noticed this post didn’t say much about the perps, but the newspaper story has a picture. Let’s just say it wasn’t played up like the trouble in Ferguson,Mo.
Any chance of a gurney ride for Darious? (Note that the idiot can’t even spell the name “Darius” correctly.)

Not really delivery drivers, but anyone involved in transportation. And when police do get injured severely or killed it’s usually traffic related. Firemen aren’t on the list either, but many of them will retire as millionaires in their forties thanks to public unions. OTOH, volunteer firemen don’t make a thing. Bless them.
Because he could.
A great gesture and good to see, but if you were the CEO, how could any of us do otherwise?
Obama and Holders sons strike again!
Don’t his sons know how to do anything except murdering people?
The spelling of Ebonics is varius
It’s a big help to spot Darius
Revealed as one of the nefarius
Sounds like they have film of this atrocity on CCTV. So saying there are no witnesses does not seem correct.
Exactly. Where is the outrage that a black person shot someone?
