Isn’t argon used in most double and triple-paned glass windows? And in the vaccuum tubes still used in some electric guitar amps?

Yes. All of my vertical glass in the greenhouse uses argon. It provides efficient solar transmission and a useful U value of .2 for double pane. My roof glass uses Krypton for a U value of .1. Krypton is very expensive.

This is pure idiocy and will drive window costs absurdly high. I take back the idiocy, this is evil.

No and no. Windows use nitrogen and vacuum tubes ideally have no gas in them.
