you do understand that the 800 pounds refers to how much of a load the chain can hold, not how much the chain weighs . . . don’t you?

I would guess she is talking about the rated load capacity of the chain. A pit at full run hitting the end of the chain would probably shock load it a lot more than 800 lbs.
