Look, Vermont, you say people are missing your point, and while I think you are being dumped on over-much, I think it is you who has missed the point of this thread.
People are remembering a man who stood for conservative principles and eloquently defended and advocated them. The country responded to that leadership. Did he ever make mistakes? Of course, but he loved America and supported it’s ideals.
I doubt Reagan could be elected in America today because the moral decay of our nation is so much more than it was in the 80’s. “PC”-ism is so much greater today. A far greater number of our people are on government assistance. But, having said all of that, the point is we need another leader like Reagan who believes in our nation’s ideals, who faces our problems head on, who makes no apologies for those ideals.
Can that type of person be elected today? - I don’t know. Is there a leader out there who can unite enough of us to make real changes toward correcting the huge growth of government? I honestly don’t know that either. But, I sure would like to be able to support someone who was as consistent as Reagan in supporting those ideals.
So, yes, we get it. Reagan is not coming back, but the principles he stood for, which is what this thread was about, are still worth fighting for and giving it all we have. I pray, God willing, that there is a leader out there who can do what Reagan did.
If you’d seen his performance defending Romneycare a couple weeks or so back, you might not think that he was being dumped on overmuch.
