I believe in 2005 the EPA regs changed the consumer washing machine industry for the worse. I would ask about those models with no central agitator, as that is truly newer technology.

For the BEST, I would look into buying (new or used) a COMMERCIAL washing machine, which would not be subject to the new regs, just as full phosphate Calgon can be bought in restaurant supply shops.

When the dish washings soaps went phosphate free I started adding white vinegar to the rinse agent. Ended the spotty utensils and glasses.

Now I have to add a color safe bleach to the laundry in order to get clothes clean.
