Six or seven years ago I bought a Maytag washer and drier, the washer being a top loader. Not a single service call or problem since. At the time they were the largest capacity Maytags. Good luck.

I bought a used Maytag washer, and eventually replaced the belt. A decade later, when the transmission gave out, I paid a repairman $300 to install a new one, rather than go with the front-loaders.

Factoid from Wikipedia:

During World War II Maytag no longer produced washing machines and instead concentrated on the war effort. From 1941 to 1945, Maytag made design improvements on, and manufactured special components for, military airplanes. These parts were used in sixteen different types of combat aircraft, including the B-29 Super Fortress, the B-17 Flying Fortress, B-26 Marauder, and the P-51 Mustang. :-)
