It appears the U.S. government has made a major release of oil reserves to deliberately affect the price of fuel prior to the elections.
The price of gasoline almost always goes down in the fall
Google reformulated gasoline
We should just rename the danged thing the Strategic Political Manipulation Reserve
This makes no sense politically since oil prices are under 3.00 a gallon...
I see no dem advantage in driving down prices even more...
I do wonder if releasing the reserve has something to do with Russia...
Just speculating ....
Nope, it’s true.
Release it to where? As I understand it, there is already a storage problem with all of the crude we’ve been extracting, and this would only make that problem worse as current refining capacity is likely already maxed out.
I think your reliable source is unreliable.
Reformulated is used and required year round.
The vapor pressure is changed seasonally in both reformulated and standard gasoline.
Even if true, how would this help the Dems?
I think lower gas prices actually helps the GOP. It proves the point that the more oil, the lower the price of gas.
I didn’t think there was any left , I thought Obama was selling it off for Golf and Vacations
It’s still not low enough for me.

The average voter will know nothing about the release of oil reserves and Obama will get the credit.
.
Releasing the high priced reserves and replacing them with low priced reserves is not bad for the tax payer, it is terrible for the oil companies.
This. The ‘new normal’ is $3.25-$3.75 +/- depending on where you live. So, excepting places like Hawaii and big inner cities, basically gas is 3 dollars and xx cents, with some places a little under $3 or over $4 occasionally. I remember when we were spittin’ mad when gas hit $1.50.
So, to your point, gas needs to be at least $.50 higher than it was a few months ago plus having the msm make a big deal of it, which they won’t do b/c a D is in the WH.
Hopefully the msm will be making a big deal of high gas prices come Jan 20, 2017.
???
If they sell oil they bought at $100 at $80, then buy oil to replace it at $80, what did that do?
Seems doubtful to me. However, given the pathological nature of this administration, I suppose it’s possible. But it’s also pretty difficult to do something like this covertly, even with a compliant media.
If...if this was actually done, the amount that could be got to market in this short of time is piddly, not enough to affect the market prices. Especially now when there is an oversupply of oil. There would be no psychological effect at all.
So again, if this was done, it would have to be for some other reason.

Who said anything about replacing it
Utter BS. The Saudis are driving the price down in an attempt to maintain their market share. Everyone in the energy business knows this and they’ve been very public about it.
