Superior weapons don't win wars. Superior fighters or numbers of fighters do.
The MG42 was superior in every measurable way to the the M1919, just as the Panther tank was superior to the Sherman. And if the Germans would have had a Panther for every T-34 and M4 Sherman that was produced, I'm not sure they would have lost.
No gas, no war. When the Germans ran out of gasoline, the entire machine ground to a halt. Food, ammo, replacements, ability to maneuver, etc. etc. The Russians had overrun the oilfields and the 8th Air Force had hammered the refineries. Game, set, match.
“Superior weapons don’t win wars. Superior fighters or numbers of fighters do.”
Hiroshima?
Thats what the Japanese Army thought. Their Navy equipment was world class, but their Army weaponry wasnt. The Japanese had élan out the wazoo, and if their equipment had been as good as ours, they would have won some battles that they in fact lost. Guadalcanal would have fallen if Japanese army equipment had matched that of the US Army and Marine Corps. It held on by the barest of threads as it was.Its not who gets there fastest, and its not who gets there with the mostest. Its who gets there fustest with the mostest."
Go ahead and tell me what “measurable ways” that the MG42 outperformed the M1919.
It wouldn’t have helped the Germans one iota to have more Tigers or Panthers: the damn things were maintenance nightmares - and we had air superiority. Between the P-47s and Typhoons (and IL-2s), the Nazi stuff just evaporated as soon as they showed up.
Don’t believe the video games - believe the actual after-action reports from The campaigns in France and Italy and Eastern Europe.
