I got in the habit as a single guy living alone, to read while I was eating. It’s a hard thing to break because I travel for business and am frequently eating alone so I read from my device while I’m at the table and during my meal.

At the same time I am not doing “selfies” or taking photographs of the food to post to any of the social media. I have warned my “friends” on social media that if they post pictures of food or drinks, they are gone. I don’t give a damn about the food. Take a pic of the group, the place, whatever...tell me what you are doing, I’m OK with that.

Their best bet is counterintuitive, which is to give better service by eliminating the problem. This is done with some redesign and by displaying a large sign at the entrance.

The redesign blocks broadcast electronic signals.

The sign says that “Due to building redesign, we no longer have WiFi available in the restaurant. Likewise, cell phones will not function within the restaurant. If you need to be contacted on an emergency basis, please give your contact the restaurant phone number. And if you need to call out, please help yourself to our free land line courtesy phones in the vestibule. Local calls only, please.”

There is also some hidden psychology here, because while the public enjoys their cellphones, they dislike other people using theirs. And by blocking electronic signals, the restaurant sets itself apart as more exclusive, and thus more desirable.

So they had poor wifi that the customers had trouble connecting to and they blame the customers.

They still serve the same number of customers, but the average visit time is almost double and a much higher rate of customers ask for a seating change. I bet in the last 10 years they shrank the table size so they could squeeze more customers into the same place. But they have the nerve to call the customer inconsiderate.

My sister bought one from Verizon as a backup but it has a slide-out keyboard... it cost her a $1

I would still be using my phone from 1995 if they still made batteries for it, I liked it it a lot, of my two phones that I have used during the cell phone era, it is still my runaway favorite.

I think this is it.

All the self-absorbed wantabe actors and artists working until their hoped-for big break as waiters and waitresses, not really into the job and truth-be-told, thinking they’re way above such menial work anyhow.....

Drives me crazy when someone holds up an i-pad to film something right in front of me with the screen at full brightness. Like at a play. Its rude.

This also drives me nuts at concerts. Back in the old days the song would go slower and you would see lighers lit all over. Now all you see are cellphone screens. Stop and watch the damn concert!

This is also what you see at many families' tables. No one talks to one another any more. They just stare at their freakin' cell phones. I recently rode a subway home from a class in Manhattan. The young man sitting across the aisle from me and I were the ONLY people on the subway not futzing around with their cell phones or iPods. Since you can't get cell service under the river, I had to wonder why they were thumbing their stupid cell phones. Some of them were playing games on their phones, some were thumbing through messages already received. But NO ONE was conversing or reading a book or newspaper.

Freakoids!

I won’t swear that is is my exact phone, but I think it is, or else it almost is, and I loved the thing, it felt and handled like a real phone.

I've read the same article before and I think it's quite accurate.

I can't tell you how many times I've had a patient come into my office and before I can say hello, they HAVE to finish their very important conversation.

Even giving me the "just one minute" index finger.

OK, I guess you can't be that sick, then.

If you're trying to squeeze me into your very important day, no reason you simply can't wait until tomorrow.

It’s a sickness, having your face stuck to your phone screen all day. What the heck can people possibly have to say so much?
