That the superior power of population is repressed, and the actual population kept equal to the means of subsistence, by misery and vice.
Clearly Malthus didn’t know what he was talking about — never attribute to conspiracy (or misery and vice) what can be attributed to Smith’s Invisible Hand. If Malthus were around now, he’d be running ACORN or Occupy.
