In my experience, most people don’t have the vaguest notion of how science works. I once saw a woman who had cut herself on a bus being offered a bottle of water to clean it with—a bottle that had already been drunk out of.
People have not been taught science. It’s too hard.
Now with this creepy disease that you can apparently get from very minor secondhand contact, it is hopeless. The average schmo will never catch on.
As for exponential growth of anything, forget it.
It is not likely that the deputy has Ebola. The close contacts spent much more time and had earlier contact with Duncan and are being monitored for symtpoms. They would probably show something by now, it is day 11. Not completely out of the woods, but in the homestretch.
