National Geographic Channel has announced the cast for Killing Jesus, its third adaptation -- after Killing Lincoln and Killing Kennedy -- of a bestselling historical thriller by Fox News host Bill O'Reilly and historian Martin Dugard, and American actor Haaz Sleiman, who's originally from Lebanon, has snagged the title role.
Born in the United Arab Emirates but raised in Lebanon, Sleiman moved to the U.S. when he was 21 and currently lives in Los Angeles. He's best known for playing a Syrian immigrant in the 2008 indie film The Visitor. He's also appeared in Showtime's Nurse Jackie (as a gay Muslim nurse); NBC's ER (as an American soldier); and Fox's 24 (as a terrorist suspect in 2007).

Not suprising at all
Jesus is an incredibly important ‘profit’ in Islam.
Mohamed wisely stole a great deal from other great religions.
Looks to me that like any young actor, he is grabbing whatever part that will allow him to eat for a few months.
According to Islam, Jesus didn’t die on the Cross, but was able to sneak away before He died. That way He couldn’t be resserected, and the Satan-worshipers/Muslims can believe there is no Ultimate Redemption and Sacrifice—the IT IS FINISHED—long before the Satanically-inspired Muhammed came along...
So, if this character portrays His death on the Cross, would that make the Muslim actor an apostate? Would some mullah issue a fatwa?
You think he has trouble finding food money?
I think playing a "gay Muslim" pretty much means that ship had already sailed.
Hmm, good point, we shall see.
Count me as one who does not object to this. There is no law that says that if your character is a religious figure, that you have to be of the same religion. Or that you have to be of the same race, nationality of your character.
If we had laws like that, half the actors who portrayed Indians in the 50s and 60s Westerns would be out of business and we would not have gotten that great performance by John Wayne as Genghis Kahn . . . .
Premeditated!
It’s a TV show. It’s an actor. It’s not a big deal.
You are wrong about this guy, he isn’t having trouble finding money for food, and he isn’t trying to break into acting.
Some Muslim will always issue a fatwa, so what.
I am unconcerned about what faith an actor has. Most actors faith lies between their knees and their belly buttons and is spelled out by the idiocy spewing from Nancy Pelosi’s much stretched pie hole.
So, regardless of who plays the Christ. What is important is the way the character is written.
NatGeo still on the air?
Or Jack Palance as Che Guevara:
Or Edward G. Robinson as Dathan:
Or Tony Randall as Dr. Lao:
