While I agree in general about the preference for more conventional food sources, and would stipulate that squirrels can (theoretically) get rabies, instances of humans contracting rabies from squirrels are virtually unheard. I found this out from a vet when a squirrel attacked some neighborhood kids.

Africans ain’t got squirrels. Monkeys, yes. Even lions, cheetahs and jackals. They ate all the squirrels I didn’t get.
