“So imagine the unhappiness of liberals right now, finding out that the police do not want and will not tolerate being monitored by their betters.”
Who told them they get to choose what they tolerate? And it isn’t their “betters” or liberals, it is the citizens they supposedly serve who are tired of the garbage coming from LE.
“They are inferiors and should be treated as such. Sneering contempt.”
Funny, since that is how more and more cops treat citizens. Cops love heaping their attitudes onto others, knowing the subject is impotent to do anything about it. Of course a camera catching a cop giving ‘tude would change that.
“Nor do uniforms make them unthinking automatons who will obey orders without question.”
You mean the same ego maniacs that expect us to obey their orders without question? They work for us and they will do as they are told. If society decides that honest cops must be monitored to ‘prove’(Some would say force) their honesty and good conduct, that that is what will happen.
If a cop doesn’t like that, quit. We don’t need his corrupt help.
Well said.
as the Powers That Be like to tell us mere citizens “if you aren’t doing anything wrong, you have nothing to worry about”.
word to the officer: YOU work for US. if you don’t like your bosses, and the new working conditions, well this is what every place I’ve ever worked suggested : get another job.
You have an incorrect axiom.
First of all, police do not “work for us”. They work for their local government. Which is why when they work for liberals their attitude is crappy in the first place.
Seriously, compare the LAPD, their morale, their behavior, their public relations, etc., with the PD of a properly run red state city. It’s completely different.
A great example of this was when the corrupt, brutal, and ineffective NYPD, which had regular investigations and pressure applied to it all the time under David Dinkins, was completely turned around by Rudy Giuliani.
He started by telling them they were worthy of respect and important to the city. And he showed it by removing a lot of b.s. the city had inflicted on them, and giving them a strategy and tactics to get tangible, positive results.
Their morale jumped. Corruption evaporated. Harassment and abuse of citizens plummeted. And everyone in the city saw things getting better. Cops were happy and doing their job professionally and well.
So in the final analysis, treat police fairly, and they will treat the public well. Of course there will always be a few bad actors, but if the police are doing well, they do not want and will not tolerate such behavior themselves.
The proof of this is that uniform cameras are pretty common around PDs in the US already. When they are “sold” to cops as *protecting* them from criminals who lie about them, the cops usually embrace them. But if the cops are ordered to wear them, “So if you screw up we can nail you”, it’s no surprise that the cops are not enthused.
