Actually, that was the X-37 trying to get a better look. It got a bit too low!

Big does not do justice to Siberia. Vast and empty is more like.

But, yes, there is junk (natural and man-made) falling all the time. Most falls in the ocean, but, as a good chunk of the land on earth is empty, it is pretty rare that anyone sees anything like this.
