Cities to avoid: Berlin...

Really? I found Berlin to be fascinating...but I haven't been there since reunification. The "garrison" mentality of the city (*West* Berlin, that is) added to the intrigue for me.Without that maybe I'd find it boring (or worse).

Yes, I went post reunification. Was really looking forward to it, but was disappointed. It’s big, relatively dirty (compared to the rest of GE).

The Berlin Wall remains were not that exciting. Beyond that, there just wasn’t a lot to see.

Was also disappointed with Athens.

I love, love, love Berlin! I was there in June and was shocked by how wonderful it was. Great museums, the reichstag dome, wall memorial. I think part of my interest was having a WWII dad and growing up during the Cold War. So much history.

I have travelled to Paris, Milan, Florence, Venice, the Cinque Terre, Torino, Zurich, Geneva, Brussels, Amsterdam and the Netherlands, much of Germany (but not Bavaria), Denmark (Copenhagen, Billund, Odensk), Dublin, Scotland, London and parts of England, Vienna, Salzberg and Normandy/Bretagne.

Of those cities/areas, I’d recommend Paris, Dublin, Venice, Amsterdam and London.
However, I’d highly recommend Rome, the Cinque Terre, Normandy/Bretagne, and Berlin.
