I am betting she was unable to tell the truth because she was trying to convince herself that everything was okay.
But, it never was. Sounds like she got caught up in the moment and when she was vulnerable, there were people just laying in wait.

I agree with you, on multiple levels. She really is lost. In Christianity we are all repentant sinners. Right?
I don’t know her story, but vulnerability of any kind, is a great liability when dealing with other human beings. Sorry to say, but it’s so true. Few people really care about you, and for some people even parents aren’t among those few. I’m not saying that about her parents, but just making the point that life is a difficult journey - and when you fall off the path when you are 18, it’s sometimes very hard to find the map you need to get back on the right path.
