Kaufman was smarter than that. Revealing a prank to a world that has largely forgotten or never known him would be a complete flop.
If (and I mean *if*) he were still alive, that world that forgot/never knew him would know ALL about him, within short order.
I'm guessing that it would totally dominate the news cycles for at least a week, maybe two. Then many, many 1-3 days worth of news cycles after that as he hits the talk show circuit, reveals new details of things he did while "dead", publishes books he's written, etc.
People would still be talking about the prank several generations down the road.
