Kansas Gov. Sam Brownback wants his state to be ready when zombies arrive.
And to make sure Kansas takes the zombie apocalypse seriously, Brownback plans to officially declare October "Zombie Preparedness Month" during a ceremonial event Friday at the Kansas Statehouse.
Zombie Preparedness Month, however, is not actually about planning a defense for viral reincarnate flesh eaters. Instead, Brownback's administration wants to capitalize on pop culture's zombie obsession to raise awareness about disaster planning and response.

You have to ask yourself on one hand they keep say '12:00 and all is well". While of the other hand they tell us it's 10 minutes to midnight you need to make sure you have a change of drawers and bring in your tomato plants.

My local park district is running a zombie preparedness class for teens ages 12-17 this weekend.

Hey now. The zombie thing is just as valid as glow-bull climate discombobulation/biggest threat ever to mankind issue currently being discussed in nyc at the u.n. by folks who are members of the million milers club.

I think its a good plan.
My wife and kids used to make fun of my “prepping.” We never had lost power for more than an hour. We were always able to get gas. The water was always warm.
The power went out for a week after a freak snow/ice storm in October wiped out the grid.
We had power. We had food. We had gas to get us to work.
Now, they make sure they have preps in their cars whenever they go anywhere.
Its nice to be right once in a while.

Does it involve signing the zombies up for food stamps, putting them up in hotels and registering them to vote?

The CDC has been promoting
Zombie Preparedness for years now. Some are indeed tasked with encouraging people to be prepared for any crisis, and find that "zombies! OMGWTFBBQ!" is a fun & effective motivator. Others are tasked with maintaining the status quo. Hence the political schizophrenia.

Funny how things like that wake people up. A few weeks ago an electrical switch for our well pump got fried — between Saturday night and Sunday morning. We went one day - one day - without water in the house and it honestly felt like we were in the stone age.
Toilets don’t flush, no washing of hands or plates, no showers, nothing. We were lucky to have it repaired on the ensuing Monday, but I’ll tell you, it was a wake up call.

I live in one of the few towns in the country where we have a gravity fed water system of the most wonderful water you can find.
A few years ago the town water tower had to be emptied and cleaned. We went a week with horrible water pressure, but that is when I learned that our reservoir can operate without pump and they just open the spigots and the water flows.
The town tower is just needed to add a little local pressure. But it is not essential...just nice. I tell me wife that is where they put in the chemicals that keep her in love with me.

I have no problem with a little preparedness. But honestly some of these preppers are outright crazy!

Its nice to be right once in a while. I like to think of it this way. You're right most of the time, it's just nice when it is recognized once in a while.

One of our local cops told me that the Z-Max .223 was the same as what they use. He just retired and is now the full time gunsmith at our local shop.

IMO, this is only a cute way of getting the LIVs to think about preparedness.
Common sense just doesn’t seem to get through to the millions of dumbed down people in this country.
