Earnhardt Jr.'s Steering Wheel breaks during practice: #88-Dale Earnhardt Jr. had an unusual occurrence in second practice at Dover International Speedway when he reported a broken steering wheel. "The steering wheel broke internally," Earnhardt said. "I heard you say that, that's not cool," replied his crew chief Steve Letarte "I'll take a look at it." "Yeah," Earnhardt said with a laugh. "I'd be in trouble." Before the issue with his steering wheel, he told the crew, ""The right rear shock tightened it up right before the second compression. The sway bar seems to his the center real hard since we put it in."(

Qualifying LineupNASCAR Sprint Cup Series Pit Stall Selections
Dover International Speedway

(NASCAR Statistics)
How are pit stall's chosen? by qualifying results, the 1st choose their stall and so on.
If a car/driver has to go to the rear of the field before the start of the race due to driver change, backup car,
engine/transmission change, etc they do NOT lose their pit stall selection

Next year’s NASCAR rules do NOT allow private test sessions.
I disagree with such a thought.
How many problems are found in the private testing?
NASCAR keeps changing the cars more often, and that will mean that whst could have been fixed in private testing will now have to show up in practice, qualifying & the actual race.
FAR more dangerous, IMO.
