Oh Tom, how right your are!
Morning FRiends!
Good morning!
Supposedly today is the day Disney turns off their stations including WTAE. Word is CC wants to buy WTAE. If they do no Q&R there.
(I think)there was a thread about a Cobett/Wolfe debate. I didn’t know there was one. In any case it was mentioned that Wolf screwed up. Have to look around for info.
Meanwhile here are a couple of links to pics I took of my workbench covered in >some< of the pears mrs p6 brought.
Last night she was busy cooking and canning. Supposedly there are lots more to come. Looks like pear jam, jelly whatever for every meal all winter long.
the pics are pretty big so I’m just posting the links.

Good morning n’@!
Those are some pretty serious amounts of pears. Carmel covered pears are just as good as Carmel cover apples (grand kid treats!)
Happy canning!
Hmmm caramel pears! Going to have to mention that tovms p6! YUM!
Wow! Those are really nice pears! We didn’t get our peaches this year. We’re both on vacation in a couple of weeks. We will be going to Boyer Orchards at New Paris, Pa for our Golden Delicious, Cortland and Granny Smith apples. I’ll be canning applesauce. Last year, the Golden Delicious apples were so sweet I didn’t need to add any sugar at all. I’ve also got about 10 quart bags of raspberries in the freezer. Temps at 37 degrees this morning, so I don’t know if the remaining raspberries on the bush will have survived!
Interesting. I had heard CC was in debt up to their eyeballs, and was in no position to buy any more stations.
And that Disney was holding out for a laughably unrealistic price.
Clear Channel is highly leveraged and a deck of cards waiting to collapse by all indications. I doubt they have the cash to pick up another station, especially in market #25. There have to be 45 stations for a company to own 8 stations (no more than 5 of the 8 being FM or AM). They currently own 5 FM and 1 AM so they could technically do it. It is possible though that they may be desperate to keep Rush from going back to KDKA which would probably put them back to #1. Everything Clear Channel does in Pittsburgh is designed to keep DVE on top so that they can charge the highest ad $. They really don’t do this by making DVE better, just by making sure that everything else in the market stays stale by comparison. Gotta love those new FCC rules.
CC is in financial problems. Did the same thing many owners did...bought stations at 10x...20x billing then used that equity to buy more. Yup, house of cards.
There is going to be a (another) blood bath at CC any day now. At least thats what everyone thinks.
Not naming names but some owners had to sell off property because as the economy dropped the banks weren’t happy with the equity arrangements even though payments were being made, just late.
Well that and getting fined for stupid management decisions like getting in trouble with Arbitron....but that is another story.
What I don’t get is why CC or anyone would want or pay big bucks for an AM. Personally I like AM but there is just too much background RFI what with all the electrial gadgets around.
Personally I think that’s a major reason why CC chose to de-emphasize Conservative Talk (i.e. flipping 104.7 to country and handing Limbaugh off to WJAS). They are going to have to start firesales of stations pretty soon in order to keep the boat afloat. And a hostile Obama FCC could cause the house of cards to collapse sooner rather than later by slow-rolling the approvals.
Depends on the frequency, power, state of repair etc.
compare the signal WJAS at 1320Mhz with 7kw to a station like WPIT at 730Mhz and 5kw. WPIT has a fantastic signal all over. Its further down the dial even with less power but is a fantastically maintained station which is not the case for many AMs
