I tried Ubuntu on a computer but I refuse to use it as long as it has GOOGLE on the start page. I can't get rid of GOOGLE or Ubuntu and I refuse to have anything GOOGLE related on my computer...So I unplugged it and set it aside until I figure out how to get them off my hard drive.
BTW, The entire Ubuntu look is depressing.

Yeah—that’s one reason I don’t like it. I prefer Fedora (but that is probably not a good beginner’s distro).

BTW, The entire Ubuntu look is depressing. Try Linux Mint. It is based on Debian Linux just like Ubuntu and they are very similar under the covers. I have used both and prefer Linux Mint.

BTW, The entire Ubuntu look is depressing. What is depressing about it? I use any picture I want as a desktop wallpaper and there is a thin bar at the top of the screen. The sidebar whatever-its-called stays hidden unless I move the cursor over there.
