Sikhs are valiant fighters, that’s for sure. This is truly a remarkable story, and one that deserves to be told.
Interesting side story to this was that the Brits were losing their doctors, and could not get enough doctors for the war effort there. My great-grandfather (Indian-Punjabi), was sent as a 20 year old to England to study medicine. He came back to India a doctor, and was sent to Afghanistan as a British-Indian Army doctor. He saved many lives including a Major, and in gratitude, the Major gave my great-granddad his writing table. I still have the British Major’s writing table. It’s seen better days...though.
