Seriously, though, while Sam’s play on defense was better than expected, the reason he was cut was because he didn’t cut it on special teams.
If you’re going to be a second/third stringer, you’d better make an impact on special teams or else there is no justification for you taking up a roster spot.
And once Sam Bradford went down, the Rams didn’t have the luxury of wasting a roster spot on Sam.
I must have missed that story. :)
I was just skimming through channels and the NFL network just analyzed why Sam was cut and the guy pointed out all of this, especially that he couldn’t or wouldn’t play special teams and couldn’t play any other position on defense and therefore wasn’t a versatile player anyway. All that hype and angst over a mediocre, one-dimensional “athlete.”
