Thanks all for your input. But I should have included a “Post Mortem”
After pulling the engine ( 6 cyl) the #4 piston had broken off the piston skirt and was cracked right up to the connecting rod.
I doubt it would have made it the 6-800 mile trip home... didn't want to chance being marooned in the middle of nowhere on I-81.
For you mech types, I'm pretty good at Jeeps having restored 2 of ‘em, one from frame up.
What I was trying to get across is as a retired couple we had a pretty good emer. cash horde.
We have to start over putting away any and all cash in to savings.. we were Lucky to have had that nest-egg.
We'll get back soon.. but the REAL WORST part was emptying out that frig... it was like science experiment gone bad in there

If you are ever around Columbia and want to make some extra money as a consultant and sort of supervisor pointing out what I’ve forgotten and do wrong on some weekends, you’d be welcome. Meals included as long as not too outrageous.

I’ve forgotten so much and other times I could use a spare pair of hands. I’m all the labor there is.

Can identify with that! My fridge died March 31 this year. I’ve cleaned out part of it, but the odors on the freezer side are horrible. ...I guess I need to do what the detectives do on shows where they go in to view autoposies; put some mentholatum just below my nose and finish the job.

The fridge was large and bought in late ‘80s. I’ve been single for 19 years and will buy a smaller unit. ...Meanwhile, I just buy a couple of bags of ice and use a large Coleman ice chest to keep milk, drinks and a couple of food items cold, while eating more from fast food places and from canned goods.

I don’t believe that so many people don’t have $400 for an emergency expense. Their problem may be that they use credit cards for everything. They should cut up their cards! ...I use a credit card only for paying an annual subscription fee online and for my monthly ISP fee. Everything else I spend is by cash only, and that greatly reduces the chances of someone getting my numbers and wiping out my accounts.
