CAMP PENDLETON (CBSLA.com) — Residents across Orange County and as far away as Riverside County have called police to report alarming lights in the sky.
It turns out the lights are part of a training exercise over Camp Pendleton, according to police, who added the lights may continue into the night Monday.
Murrieta police have been flooded with calls.
CalFire has even put out an alert for officers so they would know how to respond to people’s concerns.
No information has been given on how the lights are being utilized by the base, only that they are involved in a training exercise.
An advisory was issued by Camp Pendleton officials last week about the live-fire training exercise and warned neighboring cities may hear an increase of noise levels during the exercise.
The military has TONS of flights, lessons and such down there in the deserts.
They said (Yes, we lived in Barstow, California, for a year and saw the US Air Force and Marines fly all over the skies down there.) that it was a perfect place to practice as it never rained, was close to the HUGE San Diego base and was almost totally empty.
One could ALWAYS see the Milky Way and TONS AND TONS AND TONS AND TONS AND TONS AND TONS AND TONS AND TONS AND TONS AND TONS AND TONS AND TONS AND TONS AND TONS AND TONS of stars.
Or as Carl Sagan would says BILLLLLLLIONS AND BILLLLLLLIONS of stars...
