what a bunch of baloney! no hospital is gonna throw someone out who is close to the patient! unless the patient objects.

true. This has always been a manufactured non-concern, concern since the AIDS issue back in the 80’s. They say that since they are not directly related, they can’t get in to the ICU because it’s “immediate family only” policies but it might have happened once or twice, with a lot of fanfare and the hospitals since changed their policies.
It’s a case where popular culture representation has made something appear much more prevalent than it is in reality so people believe it’s happening when it’s not.
