Are Californians so stupid they really can’t discriminate between an umbrella and a rifle?
So the conditioning kids get in school gets carried over to college. Logical progression I guess.
He was on his way to a bumber shoot.
Several years ago, I was on the campus of Southern Utah University in Cedar City, Utah, when I saw a student carrying a rifle and chatting with his friends. He was most likely going target shooting or maybe hunting. Had that happened on a campus only a six hour drive to the southwest, the school would have been locked down, and if a SWAT team didn’t kill the student, he would be facing major felony charges.
Who made the FALSE POLICE REPORT?? Have they been Cited?? ARRESTED?? are they going to be charged with ALL COSTS related to their False Police Report?? the idiot belongs in Prison for being STUPID.
A well known institution of higher learning but not one known for a “firm grasp of the obvious”.
And what if he, shudder, was carrying a rifle? Like, so what?! Why would that be newsworthy? It’s his constitutional right, and despite California’s silly (illegal) anti- gun rules, millions of folks carry arms there every day ( in sight or not). And everyone knows it. Or perhaps there are some silly academic gooses who haven’t a clue about normal life in the real world?
This is why I think that the opencarry movement is doing a lot of good by raising awarness. In this situation, a group of a dozen or so people can make a huge difference.
If each day, one person would carry a slung air rifle while walking on a public sidewalk and another person were to trail them and film the encounter, and do this on a regular basis, even daily, sooner or later the police will either run out of money from the lawsuits, or they will start educating the callers that simply carring a rifle is not illegal.
Umbrella

Good thing it wasn’t an assault Pop Tart. Somebody could have gotten hurt.
It happened last year in North Carolina.
Campus police lockdown university for 3-hours after administrators mistake umbrella for rifle
I had a bunch of automatic weapons pointed at me, North Carolina Agricultural and Technical State University (A&T) economics professor Jeffrey Edwards, told The Winston-Salem Journal following the lockdown on Tuesday. According to campus police, two staff members of A&T in Greensboro, North Carolina, triggered the actions at 9:16 a.m. by dialing 911 and reporting they had spotted a man enter a classroom building carrying a rifle. The resulting lockdown lasted for three hours and eventually spread to nearby Guilford County Schools, including four high schools, two middle schools, and two elementary schools. Police at a public university locked down the campus for three-hours on Tuesday after school administrators misidentified a students umbrella as a rifle.
My 20-story office building in Hollywood used to get evacuated from time to time because of this sort of thing. One time a bum tossed a briefcase in the bushes and that triggered an evacuation... and a bomb squad robot and all that jazz.
