As students prepare to return to school in the next few weeks, there's no better time for a conservative freakout over education. The issue of the moment is a new outline, or framework, issued by the College Board for advanced placement classes in US history.
The framework is here. According to a resolution passed at the recent summer meeting of the Republican National Committee meeting in Chicago, it reflects a radically revisionist view of American history that emphasizes negative aspects. The RNC calls the framework, which is to be implemented for some 500,000 AP history students this fall, biased and inaccurate.
The RNC calls for Congress to de-fund the College Board, an independent body, until the course material can be rewritten

Proper objectivity is recognizing ones own weaknesses.
At one level I can fool myself into thinking I am being objective. But at a deeper level I know that I am making error after error.
This self criticism is difficult and undependable. Better is criticism from someone else, and better a host of others. But then one risks group based problems like status conflicts, signalling behavior, market drivers, fashion (and historians are notoriosly prone to fashions), and of course the leftist favorite of groupthink.
Lack of confidence ought not be mistaken for lack of ability nor vice versa. I see nothing subjective in what the Founding Fathers of the USA achieved, nor in what the enemies of that vision eventually succeeded in doing.
Whose version of history are they teaching? Assume all versions except the history you saw for yourself are fiction and then you can’t go wrong!
And aside from #17, there is also #31 in the list of goals:
- Free education for all children in public schools. Abolition of childrens factory labor in its present form. Combination of education with industrial production, etc, etc.
Belittle all forms of American culture and discourage the teaching of American history on the ground that it was only a minor part of the big picture. Give more emphasis to Russian history since the Communists took over.. . . the last clause being de-emphasized, apart from a recent spate of elevating Putin beyond his status.
