I’ve been up close and personal with Orcas when I used to fish in Cook Inlet. They are amazing mammals. I have an old video of one blowing on the starboard side of my boat, going down under it, and blowing again just off the port side. That was, shall we say, an interesting experience.

We went whale watching in the San Juan islands and my grandson was a year old at the time. Every time he cried an orca would rush right up to the boat and jump up. We called him the whale whisperer. I asked the captain why he didn’t just record a child crying for his trips to attract the orcas and he said they know the difference.

I have a huge amount of respect for them. A shark, even a large great white, probably doesn't think much. It probably has a lot of pre=programmed behavior.

But an Orca...You know they are working things out.
