I immediately thought of Pamela Smart as well.

BTW, an internet friend of mine from some years back claimed to have interviewed Smart when she was in prison. He was a criminal justice research prof, so I tend to think he was telling me the truth about this.

At any rate, he said that she was, without question, the scariest person he’d ever interviewed. He said that she could put on nice for short periods of time, until you got near a subject she didn’t want to talk about, or asked a question she didn’t like. At that point, the mask would slip ever so slightly and you’d see a glimpse of the monster underneath. “There was nothing behind those eyes, man. Nothing.”

Agree, the only obvious difference here looks like the student was more of an active participant, as opposed to Flynn, who was more or less manipulated into it.

A small aside: We're not really on the seacoast here. It takes me a good hour to drive over to Portsmouth.
