INDIANAPOLIS - A woman accused of throwing her newborn baby in a trash can at a west-side Indianapolis factory was formally charged Wednesday for the incident, which was reported last Friday.
Police said Briana Holland, 22, gave birth to a baby boy in the restroom of the United Technology Carrier Corporation building in the 7300 block of West Morris Street. A maintenance worker at the factory discovered the baby in a trash can.

She went a little further than just throwing the baby in the trash can. It sounds like she did her utmost to kill it.
I hope the father is a much better person than she is and that he can provide a home for this poor infant.
Often I think women don’t have anyone to help them when the get pregnant, but that doesn’t seem to be the case here.

According to court documents," the lower half of the baby's body was wrapped in a brown paper bag and the head was wrapped in a separate paper sack. Toilet tissue was wrapped approximately 15 times around his neck and a tampon applicator and tissue were stuffed in the baby's mouth."The worker who found the child said the baby's face was purple and its body was cold. The baby was gasping for air and suddenly stopped. The worker slapped the baby on its bottom before it began to cry, RTV6's Derrik Thomas reported.
These sort of posts I generally avoid... or avoid making any comments on... but yesterday, I lost a 3 week old kitten that I had been raising as the mother cat abandoned the litter in the milkhouse. I had already lost the runt of the litter and of the 3 remaining this one that took ill was absolutely thriving.
In 24 hours it was a complete reversal... a morning off from work to go to the vet... and within and hour of the doctor's visit there I was at home holding this sweet little creature giving it a drop of formula at a time... and it's breathing grew shallow and I just stopped trying and stroked it's perfect little ears and eyelashes... and it passed as I held it.
I have never been a father... and never really exposed to human babies... but I imagine it is the same... when you look at these helpless little living beings... and God's gift of life... and how precious it truly is...
...and here I go and read this article... read how this newborn baby was not only abandoned, but maliciously treated as to try and kill it. I don't understand how anyone could do such a thing... I struggle with it, really. I mean... well I guess I am just hypersensitive because I am sad about the kitten I had tried SO HARD to do a good job raising as its surrogate momma... I dunno. Anyway... just needed to vent.

What’s the big deal? Planned Parenthood does this millions of times a year.
...where the mother is certain to be photographed and questioned by state employees, making it very easy for the state to come after her later, and putting her at risk of being publicly identified and shamed. I wonder if a non-governmental option that guaranteed that the mother would remain anonymous and unphotographed would save more kids?

Well, you can just put the baby in there. I suppose there are people on the other side to get him or her.

Do the mothers believe that? I have read that the government baby drop-off programs are almost never used. I wonder if baby drop-offs involving pro-life organizations and small churches would get better results. Drop-off locations without security cameras would probably be a lot more appealing to these mothers than heavily monitored public buildings. Perhaps an 800 number and pickup service would be worthwhile.
I do not know the laws of all the states. However, in Texas just take the new born child to the local fire station. No questions asked and then leave. There are loving childless couples standing in line to have the opportunity to take these babies
And the mother thinks: "What if someone there recognizes me? What if the video of my visit gets into the wrong hands? Will my picture be in the newspapers and on the Internet? Will someone try to blackmail me?"
The dumpster is private.
A good solution would be just as private, but would allow the baby to live.

You make some good points. The 800 number is a good idea.
And of course people do abandon babies in ways/places where they will be quickly found, not everyone stuffs up the babies mouths with garbage so it can’t cry out or even breathe like this depraved woman did.
I’m not sure these women are even thinking straight enough that they are afraid of security cameras, etc. I think they are in a state of psychological denial of reality and that’s what stops them.
