CHERRY VALLEY (CBSLA.com) A womans monkey has been impounded by animal control officers after the primate allegedly bit someone at a Beaumont pizza restaurant Sunday.
Riverside County Animal Services spokesman John Welsh said a 35-year-old Cherry Valley woman was treated at a hospital for a laceration on her forearm after the capuchin monkey reportedly attacked her outside Antonious Pizza on Beaumont Avenue about 3:30 p.m. Sunday.
The pet was surrendered Tuesday by its owner, Wendelin Ringel, to Animal Services and California Department of Fish and Wildlife officers in Cherry Valley.
A six-month quarantine period will be observed to make sure the monkey is not carrying the rabies virus, Welsh said in a media release, adding that two other monkeys, a capuchin a tamarin, were also surrendered to the agencies because Ringel did not have the appropriate permits to own them.
Any mammal can be susceptible to rabies virus infections, so this is a standard precaution, Riverside County Chief Veterinarian Allan Drusys said.
Its probably unlikely the monkey has rabies, but the monkey must be quarantined in the interest of public health, he said.
Monkeys have a notorious reputation for biting people. I wouldn’t get near one.
How do you impound a dead monkey? Cause that is what would happen if it bit my wife.

Blind beggar: I am a musician and the monkey is a businessman. He doesn’t tell me what to play, and I don’t tell him what to do with his money.
For some odd reason, the Planet of the Apes comes to mind
“I am a musician and the meenkey is a businessman. He doesn’t tell me what to play and I don’t tell him what to do with his money.”
I have had a couple of personal run ins with monkeys when I was a visiting nurse back in my younger days.
Nasty creatures pulled a good handful of hair out of my supervisor’s head and bit a nursing student ( she insisted they were cute, even after I told her to stay away) Needless to say I am less than enchanted with them, even at the zoo.
I have a very firm policy of “KILL ON SITE” every primate I see; with the exception of human beings, only because it is illegal to kill people for no good reason.
Beaumont restaurant? Sounds Hugh.
Quarantine? If we won't do it for AIDs or ebola victims or those with scabie, polio, or the plague, why do it for a 'minkey'?

Sometimes a woman’s monkey CAN be belligerent.
