A 19-year-old girl has been arrested in connection with a bizarre case out of the state of Florida. She apparently kept her pregnancy from her mother, whom she feared would force her to have an abortion.
Once the teenage gave birth, she hid the baby under a sink and authorities later found the child alive.
Palm Bay police say Breanna LaSean Ross was 18 years old when she gave birth in January in her bathroom then placed the baby in a grocery bag and hid the child underneath a sink.
According to a news report: She told police she hid her pregnancy because previously, her mother and the mother of her babys father forced her into having an abortion. She thought they would make her do the same with this pregnancy.
From the story:
baby36She told police she woke up on Jan. 31 with stomach pains. After struggling to use the restroom, she gave birth to a baby girl. She cleaned up, put the baby under the sink and passed out.
Emergency personnel took her to Palm Bay Hospital due to excessive bleeding. A doctor told police Ross appeared to be in a clear state of mind, but was overwhelmed about telling anyone she was pregnant.
The doctor told police she had lost about two pints of blood and could have had clouded judgement or a diminished capacity to make decisions.

Another doctor said the baby weighed 5 pounds, 13.3 ounces. There were concerns the babys kidneys werent working correctly, but the doctor was confident she would recover.
Police werent sure if there was probable cause that Rosss actions rose to the level of a crime. They sent the paperwork to the State Attorneys Office to see if she should be arrested.
Court records show Ross was charged with one count of felony child neglect on Saturday, about six months after the birth.
She evidently didn’t realize that after having given birth her mother’s demands for an abortion would be rendered moot.
Must be a large girl to be able to hide the entire pregnancy. And at 19, why does she fear her mothers reaction to her pregnancy?
You'd be surprised at the ways a pregnancy can be hidden - in fact, slender women can often hide it behind sweatshirts and other loose-fitting clothes and no one would be the wiser.
As for her age and her mother -- I don't know. As this wasn't her first pregnancy, I'm thinking "LIV" type, not too well-educated and basically under the thumb.
She lost two pints of blood during the delivery. So yea she kinda was not her normal self. Sad because she could have died giving birth, she really needed to be in hospital for that.
“Must be a large girl to be able to hide the entire pregnancy.”
I may have told this story here before, but I’ll risk it again.
I honestly wouldn’t believe this myself, but I saw it with my own eyes twice.
I worked with a woman, she had a lovely slender figure, what we used to call a “perfect size 6”.
I saw her on a daily basis through 2 pregnancies, that she was in no way hiding.
I swear to you, at 9 months pregnant she looked, at the very most, 6 months pregnant.
Both kids were born full term and full weight.
If she had wanted to hide her pregnancy, she certainly could have.
I have also known some very overweight women where you could also not tell they were pregnant, but A. was a revelation to me.
Yes, of course I hated her for it!
Thanks, one of the great things about FR is the amount you can learn from the experiences of others. Very educational site.
and she should also be aware that she is an adult and she cannot be forced to get an abortion.
According to a news report: She told police she hid her pregnancy because previously, her mother and the mother of her babys father forced her into having an abortion.
And she stayed with her mother and continued to be with this guy sexually. It appears this girl has psychological issues or is very weak or both.
Not wanting a forced abortion is no reason not to call an ambulance and go to the hospital when you go into labor. What, exactly, did she plan to do with the child after it was born?
