With The Hobbit: The Battle of the Five Armies capping off The Hobbit trilogy - and finishing out what Jackson thinks of as a six-part set of films, that includes Lord of the Rings - it would seem that his time in Middle-earth is at an end.
However, some fans wonder if there isn't one more work of Tolkien that Jackson could adapt to film. The Silmarillion, something of a history of Middle-earth that precedes both The Hobbit and Lord of the Rings, remains unfilmed.

The Chapter on Beren and Lúthien would take at least a movie on its own.
ping
Wow. This would be a challenge. Peter? up to it?
remains “unfilmed”..
you mean, remains un-cgi’d...
“The Chapter on Beren and Lúthien would take at least a movie on its own.”
Probably the path that he would follow.
Prequels are tough to do right.
I am reminded of “the Phantom Menace’ and the TV show “Enterprise”.
NOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Peter Jackson doesn’t have a clue about characters or their development. The result would be an unending CGI-generated videogame fantasy.
He’s ruined enough with The Hobbit in the Temples of Doom...
How you would have both Glaurung and Ungoliant without CGI?
Btw, I think Jaime Lannister is a ripoff of Turin Turnambar.
IMO, Jackson has jumped the shark with the Hobbit films, and, thus, it’s no tragedy if he won’t be adapting The Silmarillion. However, it’s slightly ridiculous to say that it can’t happen because the Tolkien family would never approve. Christopher Tolkien is pushing 90, and sister Priscilla isn’t far behind. It’s only a matter of time before the grandkids gain control of the estate, and who knows what they’d approve? Money can be very persuasive.
I want another Howard Shore soundtrack. Howard isn’t getting any younger.
i do not understand what you just said. :-)
i’m not saying cgi is bad, i am saying a large portion of those movies is not “filmed”.
When I was smart (in college) I tried to read that book.
Almost impossible.
I am over half way done, about 100 more pages.
Other than both sleeping with his sister (which Turin did unwittingly and Jaime knowingly), they two have nothing in common.
I liked LOTR but I haven’t seen the Hobbit movies yet
Is your brain starting to explode?
LOL!
No, I am actually getting addicted. Never in a million years did I ever think I would become of a big Tolkien fan.
“...the Hobbit films so far, while not quite as good, are extremely well-done and entertaining to say the least. In fact, IMHO Peter Jackson improved upon Tolkien’s work.”
Ummm...no. Not even close. The Hobbits films are stupid beyond pain. The only good thing about the second one was that I fell asleep and missed about half of it. I won’t waste time watching the third unless I have copious beer and a desire to scream at someone...
The Hobbit is a book that is all about character development, and Jackson couldn’t be more clueless if someone shot him in the head 50 times with a 12-gauge.
