I’m with you. This stuff is nothing more than “Look at me! See how clever I am? I can’t make a good movie so I’ll make a good BAD movie.”
It’s self-congratulatory failure, a further lowering of the bar, and a celebration of mediocrity.
“Stupid” isn’t the same as “funny.”
If you want to see appallingly — and legitimately — bad cinema, watch “Troll 2” or “Birdemic.” Beyond horrible ...
Indeed. There’s a lot to read into a culture that resorts to deliberately making a tongue-in-cheek “schlock” movie to emulate a shared “bad movie event” experience. Not only does the contrived self-consciousness of the whole endeavor defeat the purpose, but it’s showing popular culture reaching a dead-end. Like a death wheeze.
This morning, I even saw some network morning news show happily touting this film, in the whole anticipation of the “event.” I know I probably sound like some grump who doesn’t want to join the fun party, but I really do find this sort of thing emblematic of cultural tiredness and decay. Which is paralleling the country’s social and political decay.
