I think the best he can hope for is a sympathetic jury.
I hope he is able to find an attorney that is 2nd Amendment sympathetic and is capable of vetting the jury pool.
This case has nothing to do with the 2A.
Given the coldblooded and ill-advised statements he made, and given his advanced age, his attorney would be much better off advising a plea deal.
I hope he receives Justice, which in my opinion would require him to be in Prison probably till he dies. He murdered that woman and then bragged about it.

Aside from legal issues, I hope word gets out on the streets what happened. The thugs may think twice about burgaling in that neighborhood for fear of getting shot.
