WASHINGTON (AP) — President Barack Obama has nominated a lawyer who raised campaign money for him in the 2008 and 2012 elections as ambassador to Finland.

The lawyer, Charles C. Adams Jr., is the managing partner at the Geneva office of the international law firm of Akin Gump Strauss Hauer & Feld. He was among a group of Obama fundraisers in 2008 that raised between $50,000 and $100,000 for the campaign. In 2012, he was among Obama’s top fundraisers, bringing a minimum of $500,000 to the president’s re-election effort.

Adams has worked in Geneva for at least 20 years, serving as managing partner for two law firms in addition to his current post. He is a graduate of Dartmouth College and the University of Virginia School of Law and was a Peace Corps volunteer in Kenya from 1968 to 1970.

Obama also nominated career foreign service officers Barbara A. Leaf as ambassador to the United Arab Emirates; Virginia E. Palmer as ambassador to the Republic of Malawi, and William V. Roebuck as ambassador to Bahrain.
