In order that we might all raise the level of discourse and expand our language abilities, here is the daily post of "Word for the Day".

factitious (fak-TISH-uhs) adjective
1. Artificial.
2. Sham.

Example sentence:
"'For me, this is the only real place,' David says in the novel, but for the reader the city remains disappointingly factitious."
--Say Nice Things About Detroit; The New Yorker; Aug 27, 2012.

Etymology:
From Latin facticius (artificial), past participle of facere (to do). Earliest documented use: 1646.

The sentence must, in some way, relate to the news of the day. The Review threads are linked for your edification. ;-)
Practice makes perfect.....post on....

It would be a factitious comment on my part if I said I didn’t think you where making it too easy to criticize the current regime given recent events.

It’s a breaking news story when the regime doesn’t make a factitious argument for what they are doing.

Kevin W is hilarious, and your former guv DO resemble that remark ; )
xshub and I were talking to the kids about the olden days when we moved to DC after college and what stuff was like, How the subway only went to Ballston and didn’t have the LED signs on the sides telling you what train it was, and there weren’t boards telling you when a train was coming etc. and the conductors would jauntily announce as the doors were closing “this train DO go to Ballston” LOL@!

When we were there and rode the Metro to the Mall last year, the on-train announcements were a muddled, largely-incomprehensible mess.

they can afford to do that now, bc you have a better idea of what train you are on and which way you are headed bc of the signage. in the 80s you had to listen and decipher.

I saw this on twitter when it was posted and LMAO. Prob would help if you were familiar with the song Get Low, but this drunk guy slayed me. You see all kinds on the metro!

It is overcast, humid with sprinkles off and on-the “real” rain is supposed to happen later-

The circus of daily briefings
To a once-complacent press
Is becoming so factitious
Even they see it is a mess

First, a hustle from a carney
Right from a traveling show
Luring them to the tent flap
Answering questions with “no”

Now, Earnest is put forward
It is just more of the same-
He deflects and he dissembles
And is nothing like his name...

Josh Earnest: “When you prioritize photo-ops ahead of solutions to actual problems, you aren’t really accomplishing very much"
He actually said that. A+ for you, F- for the factitious press secretary.

Thank you-give that man a cigar...

I came back from getting paid and stopping to get fresh veggies with a bunch of change in my picket, so I put it on the end table. Titus hopped up there and methodically batted each coin onto the floor while I watched him...

Had a lively discussion on the Pope with my therapist the other day. We talk about all kinds of things. I realized I must have missed lots of the stuff that crops up about the Pope. Thanks for pinging me. I got on line to check out the crazy bank robbery near San Jose. Unbelievable. Scary that it is so close to my son and daughter out there.

I heard this REM on the way home, now it is stuck, but it is a good one...

“Follow me, don’t follow me,
I’ve got my spine, I’ve got my orange crush”...

glad you have a good PT/OT, I liked mine a lot too. I had not heard about the bank robbery. always nerve-wracking when that stuff happens near our families!
my niece is flying in from Columbus tomorrow for xsteen’s shower on Saturday, going to be so nice to have her. i’m planning to grill tomorrow PM and have salads for her, the future inlaws and my friend paula— a chance to visit before the shower which probably won’t end up being that much of a chance to chat.
