He'd be better than the one we have.
The All-Star Game has always had network announcers, but the World Series didn’t used to. They would have one announcer from each club. For example, when the Yankees and Dodgers met, they’d have Scully and Allen. I liked it better that way.
At least Harold Reynolds is better than that blowhard Tim McCarver.
Angelenos tend to think everything should be according to their lights. They’re much worse snobs than Easterners.
Was a chance for baseball to honor one of the all timers
For being such a big Scully fan, I’m surprised that you wouldn’t know that Scully turned down the opportunity, saying that he would have done it if it had been in LA.
Here’s what Vin himself said, something you might have researched before your silly rant.
If the game was at Dodger Stadium on SportsNet L.A., maybe Id do it, the 86-year-old broadcasting legend replied in his usual cordial manner from his Hidden Hills home.
No need to dive deeper into that statement about how few would actually see the game if that were to actually happen.
But to be honest, he continued, Im not interested in doing it any more. Ive done enough of them. Id feel like an intruder, really.
I just dont want to shoulder my way into another booth.
I can tell you Joe Buck is totally different now from when he was first starting out doing Cardinals broadcasts. And not for the better.
Tim McCarver is more tolerable now when he is doing Cardinal broadcasts than when he was with Fox.
You won't be disappointed, if you expect little of him. He's got a great collection of skills, with the disciple of a first year Little Leaguer. He should be in AA ball, not starting in the All Star game.
For national games, Buck & McCarver spend too much time trying to appear impartial. Then end up dumping on the Cards at every turn.
The best thing about the All-Star Game.......The Rangers can’t lose.
I get tired of Joe Buck saying “he’s the next great superstar in this league”. In his mind if you make the all star team, which is a vote of fans, not necessary the best players, you are automatically the next Mickey Mantle.
That’s the thing about TV that I find more annoying even than the cloying liberalism - abject celebrity worship. Yeah, Jeter’s a great player, likely first ballot HOFer, but he’s not worthy of the shameless worship shown at the ASG. He’s just a guy, with some character flaws and warts, he’s not a god. They treat Ohomo and the Clintoons in exactly the same way, and it’s not all just liberal bias, it’s idol worship.
