The sound reminds me of a WW2 pre-attack lineup of fighters on a runway.
Funny thing about birds... They go where the food is.
I wish I had that problem! I only have 2 this year.... I usually will have around 6 or 8.
If you feed them they will come haha.
Seriously though, cutest problem ever.
what is the mixture you use???
Hey dad,
This is waaaay kool.
Any idea where this masterpiece took place?
Thanks
30% sugar
55% water
15% Crown Royal.
Poor hubby can't even stand outside, it's like planes buzzing the Empire State building in the movie King Kong....his red hair is like a magnet! LOL!
When my wife put up a hummingbird feeder a few years ago, I laughed at her efforts. I had never seen an h-bird in the wild in my life of over sixty years. Well, the little birds came and dined. I couldn’t believe it. The most I’ve seen at one time is three, and they usually fight to get control. But it is fun watching them.
We have a bird infestation too, all kinds. We love it and keep 3 bird feeders full all the time and a bird bath full of water. the hummingbirds come for my red geraniums.
Boy, you aren't kidding. There's a bird feeder in the back yard of the rental we're in. It's been empty since we moved in. There were still some dregs in it, and the occasional finch would come by and grab something.
Well, on a whim, I went out and bought a five-pound bag of feed on Saturday and filled the hopper. It went from ghost town to Times Square in about an hour.
Froze to death last winter? Didn't migrate far enough south?
Took the family on a camping trip to Black Canyon Campground on the Santa Fe National Forest (just a few miles NE of Santa Fe, NM).
We took our dart-board with us (one of those plastic-tip dart boards with the little holes for the plastic-tip darts, instead of cork. The little hummingbirds were constantly probing the holes of the red areas. They also probed the red on the Coleman labels of just about everything in camp (propane cannisters, camp stove, coffee maker). It was quite enjoyable watching them and getting buzzed by them while sitting in camp.
Saw a Ruby-Throated hummingbird in upstate SC last week, and I think an Allen’s in LA near Griffith Park two days ago.
Posted it on my facebook page.
Note: The red dyed hummingbird nectar is unnecessary and not good for them. Almost all feeders have enough red to attract them.
And their attitude is similar as well ;) Can hardly believe they are all occupying the same small number of cubic feet, as our hummers guard “their” feeders Very zealously : o
They even come and check us out on the deck, juuuuust making sure we are not trying to move in on their stashes ;)
What amazing, beautiful creatures. Thanks Lord! :)
