Boehner rebuffs Palin on Obama impeachment call, sticks with lawsuit
Fox News ^ | 7-11-2014 | Mike Emanuel

Posted on 07/11/2014 4:48:41 PM PDT by Citizen Zed

Boehner's response to Palin's call reflects concerns about the tricky politics behind impeachment proceedings, and Republicans' own record of going down that road in the past.

New York Democratic Rep. Steve Israel said Boehner is right to stand his ground. "On this, I happen to agree with Speaker Boehner, that we should not be spending our time or wasting our money pursuing the impeachment of this president," Israel told Fox News in an interview.

Minnesota Republican Rep. Michele Bachmann says the House should consider impeaching Homeland Security Secretary Jeh Johnson for not fully enforcing the nation's immigration laws, and suggested that might stop Obama's overreach.

"I'm not advocating that we impeach the president right now," Bachmann told Fox News. "I'm saying that what we need to do is defund selective portions of the Executive Branch, and impeach certain officials in the Executive Branch."

Do you know how impeachment works?

The House merely indicts...the trial occurs in the Senate.

I liken what Palin did as to planting a seed.

With Obama’s sheer lawlessness at the very forefront of things, with his facilitation of this invasion of illegals, the timing was right to plant this seed. This was a forward-thinking action. Moreso than just a literal and immediate rally-cry.

Obama: "But, suppose the House indicts...what if the Republicans take over the Senate?"

Jarrett: "With McConnell?? Get real! Totally under our control! He doesn't wipe his butt without my permission! You've got nothing to worry about!"

Impeachment is the prerogative of the House and it is their DUTY to impeach where warranted, regardless of the prospects for conviction.

The lawsuit is a bad idea and could lead to a very bad precedent.

That is exactly why the congress has waited for an extreme emergency to turn to the courts. They have let Obama get way out of bounds before challenging him.

If the courts don't stop him now, there is no point in having a congress or the courts. If congress puts up any kind of a reasonable argument, the courts should side with them.

The Founders did not vest the House with the power of impeachment, but only if they are sure the Senate will convict.

Sarah is absolutely, positively right.

Obama has committed myriad high crimes and misdemeanors; the House MUST impeach. Let the Senate, then, do what it will.

Palin is clever. Whatever she is doing...it is for a good reason.

Be practical. Why would the House impeach if the Senate cannot muster the votes?

That is nothing more than a message.

And it gives the Dims something to use to gin up the vote in November.

We need to wait until we know that the gun is loaded before we pull the trigger.

Do we want to send a message to conservatives that already hate the SOB...or do we want to remove him from office?

Correct. Since impeachment = indictment, if the person is indicted, by definition the “impeachment” works. It is the Senate’s responsibility to convict or not convict, but that does not annul, repeal or nullify the House’s duty to indict. If they refuse to do their duty, they are complicit with all the high crimes and misdemeanors that they refuse to indict.

Once the person is impeached, it is the Senate who will have to look at the evidence and vote. Based on that evidence and their votes, we can know which senators are complicit and need to be removed and which care about this country.

I have great respect for Palin but wonder what's the heck she is doing here.

Well, first of all, she is speaking the truth.

Secondly, she is acting out of principle, and not outcome-based decision-making.

Something the cowards in the GOP-E do all the time.

Something I am glad that our founders refused to do, otherwise, they would have never fought a war against the most powerful Army/Navy in the world at the time, Great Britain.

Bingo!

Principle over pragmatism is the foundation of conservatism.

Our country is at war...speaking the truth to the enemy has nothing to do with winning that war.

I do not for a moment believe that Sarah was speaking off the cuff. It was part of a strategy, I believe...coordinated with others who seek to defend out country.

And yet, that is exactly the approach our Founders took both figuratively and literally.

I will follow their example any day over the example of a Pragmatist.

By the way, it is also the approach Jesus took, and therefore, the correct path a Christian must take.

In a war, one does not act according to rules if those rules defeat the cause.

If the House acts to impeach now, it will give the Dims a reason to bring out the vote...and for no good reason since so far, there aren't enough votes in the Senate to remove Obama.

It comes down to this. Are your trying to achieve an objective...or are you just making noise?

This county is at war with those who want to destroy it...should we use strategy to win the war...or just yell about the injustice of it all?

I suggest "let's win it!"

And that takes strategic thinking.

How effing stupid are you.

You don't share your plans with the enemy.

The Founding Fathers didn't do that and neither did Jesus.

BTW, this is the reason that Jesus spoke in parable...so that the enemy wouldn't understand what He was saying.

And they are still confounded by it.

Boehner doesn’t have standing. He doesn’t represent Congress. He really only represents a majority in the House of Representatives.

Besides he has other options to check the POTUS. The purse, and impeachment.

Palin calls for impeachment. GOPlibs refuse to impeach

Obama gets more and more authoritarian...Palin looks like a genius being the first real nat’l figure to call for impeachment.

Impeachment puts on record those Dems and esp. GOP who support Obama

Oh grow up...this is much more orchestrated than that.

Palin is willing to play the fool so that the GOP in Congress can pretend to think otherwise.
