Isn't trying to score points the purpose of any sport?
Not in golf, and not in any score that doesn't use "points". (Baseball is "runs", hockey is "goals".

Not in golf, and not in any score that doesn't use "points". (Baseball is "runs", hockey is "goals". But with the exception of golf, the point is to score. And to score more runs/goals/baskets/points than your opponent. So where is soccer any different from that?
