The only BBQ that I know of is Western Ky. BBQ. As I remember it is pretty sweet, I don’t know of any other kind and have no idea how it is made. Best I can remember having in Ky was made by a little side of the road shack called Bootleggers BBQ. It is good and now there are several of them. It is on the road to Bardstown, home of the guy who wrote, My Old Ky Home, Stephen Foster I think.
In Lexington there is Billy’s BBQ, I remember they had a big smoker so the EPA has probably put them out. I know they have been there at least 30 years and make Western Ky. BBQ.
Best BBQ I ever had was at a rough looking place in the Smokies in Tenn. where you ate outside and shared it with 4 million flies.
I don’t remember having BBQ in Eastern Ky, probably because stealing the pig or beef is a lot of work.
I think all BBQ in Ky involves the liberal use of bourbon both on the meat and taken internally while cooking it.
Many years ago, Dobbs in Dothan was about as good as any. They did not put anything on the meat but you had several choices such as relish, a Cole slaw like sauce and BBQ sauce.
I would usually put some of the pickle relish on mine and nothing else. I have been told recently that it is no longer the same and to not even bother going by Dobbs anymore.
