Totally agree BBQ sauce ruins good BBQ. I’m gonna have to do a taste test and compare Texas and NC. I am going to Houston next month to visit a friend. Will they have it there or do I need to go somewhere else to find it?

Will they have it there or do I need to go somewhere else to find it? You will likely find BBQ sauce at every BBQ joint. I'm saying most good BBQ does not need sauce. It just hides mistakes. There are a lot of great BBQ places in Texas. Whatever you do, DO NOT eat at Rudy's. The sausage is so greasy, it leaves a grease puddle in the plate.
