She is destined to die of old age.
On July 4, 1898, the day of her birth, newspaper headlines were announcing the US Navy’s victory over Spain in the Battle of Santiago. That day is just about halfway between the present time and the Battle of Fort Henry during the War of the American Revolution.
Good for her. It seems unkind, however, to only show her at 116 years of age. What did she look like at 20? 45?

Congratulations Gertie! Good for you girl. My great aunt almost made 116 and she died back in about 1996.
Can you imagine all the changes she has seen in her life, a lot of it good but a lot of it bad too.
