land line should be land line telephone. Obviously there is a twisted pair for DSL to work.

no if you want dsl for internet but no dial phone service...you can get what is called a "dry line" for dsl.. This is a twisted pair that has dsl service on it but no POTS (Plain Old Telephone Service) on it
