'The Hobbit' Part 3 News: Climax Of 'Battle of Five Armies' 'Sets Tone' For 'What's Going To Happen' In 'Lord of the Rings' Trilogy
Letteri went on to speak about how the ending of this movie would lead into and help fans better understand the Lord of the Rings trilogy.
"Yeah because it is the climax, and you really just need to know that there is another battle for Middle-earth," he said." The whole extension of The Hobbit's story has really been to get us to the point where we understand when we leave it what's going to happen when you pick up the Lord of the Rings trilogy, and this really does kind of set that tone."
He went on to add that The Hobbit: The Battle of Five Armies would serve as the "peaceful interlude" before the Lord of the Rings trilogy.

Me too. And I've been a fan of JRR for 50 years.
Greatly admired PJ's work in LORT, though I didn't agree with all his story changes.
The Hobbit has been a huge mess.
PJ is a huge talent, but really needs to work under the supervision of an adult.
Haven’t seen the movie and may not, but I’m told Thorin lives.
True, but he was the son of the Elven King, so he was no doubt around while the dwarves were being held prisoner. That Bilbo didn't meet him isn't surprising. He was sneaking around in corners.
I don't object to the broader view of the world in the Hobbit movies. Although the narrow POV of the books provided by simply Bilbo's POV added something.
One could fuss over what’s being done ... but I decided just to take it as it is and appreciate the parts I like. Even some of the video-game-inspired fight scenes are cute, at least, and the elves have darling hairstyles.
I saw the first two, and didn;t like how it was being stretched from what could have been one long movie into apparently three long movies. A disappointment compared to “The Lord of the Rings”; I don’t even know if I’ll pay to see the last one.
Correct. The hobbit was a short book. Understandable to make 3 movies from TLOTR trilogy. But this hobbit thing by Jackson is strictly a payday thing. Despicable.
“Neither is the chick who played Kate in the TV show Lost. Shes hot as an elf, but I dont remember her in the book.”
They are PC versions of the books; wasn’t the elf that takes Frodo to be healed (past the black riders) a guy in the books?
Jackson probably took editing lessons from Kevin Costner.
Yes.
‘Thorin in Bilbos father” - ewwwwwwwww
Which is curious, because the main theme of the Hobbit is greed and arrogance, what it is, why people do it, why it is a bad thing...
The story is waaay overstretched for three flicks but if PJ had done it in one I prolly would've whined over him not doing two or three 'cause the scenery's nice the action's pretty good why not take your time?
The again I thought King Kong was pretty good so what do I know?
I think the story could have stretched three movies, but it would have been boring, just like it was for the characters. The 2nd movie compressed nearly three months of action into what seemed hardly more than a week!
And by “action,” I mean mostly “hiking in the dark.”
I thought the movies were fine. So what if they are ‘too long’? After going to all the work of setting up this monster of a movie, might as well create lots of film. Plus, seeing Evangeline Lily prance around in an elf costume is very enjoyable. Imagine if she captured you and forced you to be her mate? haha!

How dare you call her superfluous! :)
and Fili and Kili
I totally wish she was not there. Why did they have to add stupid love triangles that didn’t exist! ARRGH!!!
